The mission of the Duluth Affordable Housing Coalition is to coordinate efforts of community agencies, organizations and individuals in addressing the needs of low-income people as they relate to decent, safe, sanitary and affordable housing.
The Duluth Affordable Housing Coalition is comprised of over twenty local organizations and concerned citizens who advocate for and with low income citizens in support of initiatives which ensure that safe and affordable shelter, rental units, and permanent housing options are available to low income people. In 2005, the Duluth Affordable Housing Coalition is focusing on several critical areas:
1. Research and secure funding for homeless prevention and supportive housing.
2. Make landlord training on rental law mandatory.
3. The development committee will work on a vairety of intiatives to support the continued development of affordable housing including: student housing devleopment, tax forfeit and City-owned land acquisition, tax increment financing and tax abatement.
