2005 Housing 1000 Report Released

New housing units in 2005 exceeded the yearly target of 166 units. As a result of last year's demolitions the overall target still lags behind by 211 units. With much new construction in the pipeline, 2006 will make a considerable dent in closing that gap.

Housing 1000 Releases Mid-Year Progress Report

Figures for housing development in Duluth for the first six months of 2005 show a net gain of 94 units so far this year. This brings to total gain of housing units in Duluth since January 2004 to 46 units, erasing the loss experienced in the last half of 2004. Click on the link to left to download the full report.

Housing 1000 Releases 2004 Year End Report

In 2004, affordability goals were exceeded in the lowest category of income earners. However, housing production lags behind in moderate priced units and overall production. 101 units have been created in the last year, falling short of the number needed to achieve our goal. When demolitions are taken into account for the year we see new unit production is actually in the red with a negative forty nine (-49) unit total. This overall loss of units shows that there is indeed a strong need for additional housing.

Mayor Bergson Voices Support for Housing 1000
Duluth Mayor Herb Bergson voiced his continuing support for the Housing 1000 initiative in his State of the City Address.

Expanding the Pie Committee Formed
The Duluth Housing 1000 Campaign has formed a Housing 1000/Expanding the Pie Subcommittee which is working to identify funding gaps and seek out new sources of revenue to meet the goal of 1000 units.
